RTOS vs General OS

EasyPython

Problem

Explain the difference between a real-time operating system (RTOS) and a general-purpose operating system.

For this coding exercise, represent the distinguishing properties as Boolean features and classify the system. Implement classify_operating_system(features), returning "RTOS" only when scheduling is deterministic, interrupt latency is bounded, and deadlines are guaranteed; otherwise return "GPOS". For example, {deterministic_scheduling: true, bounded_interrupt_latency: true, deadline_guarantees: true} returns "RTOS", while any missing guarantee returns "GPOS".

Constraints

  • features contains the keys deterministic_scheduling, bounded_interrupt_latency, and deadline_guarantees
  • Each feature value is a Boolean
  • Return exactly either "RTOS" or "GPOS"
