Your question is Root-Cause Analysis for Profit Decline. Take a moment with it on the right.

Problem

Do a root-cause analysis: profitability of Revolut's stock trading product has declined. Why, and what would you do?

Asked in the Problem solving stage for a PM role at Revolut in 2025.

Structure your response as a practical investigation. Define the profitability metric, decompose its movement into revenue and cost drivers, identify the analyses needed to distinguish product, customer, market, and operational causes, and recommend prioritized actions with guardrails.

You may assume access to stock trading transactions, fee and spread revenue, market data, infrastructure and vendor costs, customer segments, trading activity, and incident logs. State any assumptions clearly and distinguish diagnosis from intervention.
