Refactor Legacy Python

MediumPython

Problem

Given an undocumented and inefficient legacy Python function in an online code-pad, perform a code review and refactor the code.

Write a cleaner, faster version of the function with the same behavior. Keep the public function signature unchanged, and preserve the expected input and output shapes used by the tests.

Function Signature

def refactor_legacy_function(data):

Input and Output

  • data: the function input used by the legacy implementation
  • return: the refactored function result with the same semantics as the original code

Constraints

  • 1 <= len(data) <= 10^5
  • Elements of data are hashable
  • The refactored function must preserve the original output semantics
