Real-Time Waveform Component

MediumPython

Problem

Implement a custom view or UI component that displays a real-time audio waveform during playback in a Suno mobile app.

For grading, implement the waveform aggregation algorithm used by the component. Given signed audio samples and a requested number of display bars, return the maximum absolute amplitude for each evenly sized sample range. The function should preserve the input order and produce exactly one value per bar.

Input/output contract: samples is a non-empty list of integers, and bar_count is an integer from 1 through len(samples). Return a list of bar_count non-negative integers.

Constraints

  • 1 <= len(samples) <= 5000
  • 1 <= bar_count <= len(samples)
  • -1000000 <= samples[i] <= 1000000
  • Return exactly bar_count values
