Real-Time Operating Systems Challenges

HardPython

Problem

What are the challenges you face when working with real-time operating systems? Implement simulate_rtos(tasks, duration) to model a single-core, fixed-priority preemptive scheduler in one-unit time slices. Each task is a dictionary with name, period, execution, deadline, and priority; return a dictionary containing missed_deadlines and the per-slot timeline. Lower numeric priorities run first, releases occur at multiples of period, and an unfinished job misses its deadline at the deadline boundary.

Constraints

  • 1 <= len(tasks) <= 100
  • 1 <= duration <= 5000
  • 1 <= period, execution, deadline <= 5000
  • 0 <= priority <= 10^9
  • Task names are non-empty strings
  • Lower numeric priority values have higher scheduling priority
  • Each task releases at time 0 and at every nonnegative multiple of its period
