Programming Fundamentals Check

EasyPython

Problem

What is the difference between PUT and POST?

Asked in the Google HR Screening stage. Implement describe_http_method(method) to encode the core distinction between the two HTTP methods.

Input and Output

The function receives method, either "PUT" or "POST", and returns a dictionary with purpose, idempotent, and target fields.

For PUT, return purpose: "replace", idempotent: true, and target: "specific resource". For POST, return purpose: "create or process", idempotent: false, and target: "resource collection or action".

Constraints

  • method is exactly "PUT" or "POST"
  • Return keys must be purpose, idempotent, and target

Function Signature
