SQL Power User Identification

MediumSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

Given a table of user event logs, how would you write a query to identify power users based on session frequency and duration? For this exercise, analyze events during January 2025 and treat a user as a power user when they have at least 3 sessions and an average session duration of at least 20 minutes. Derive each session's duration from its first and last event timestamps.

Output

  1. Return one row per qualifying user.
  2. Include user_id, session_count, and avg_session_duration_minutes.
  3. Order by session count descending, average duration descending, then user ID ascending.
