Palindrome Coding Implementation

EasyPython

Problem

Amex Membership Rewards can normalize user-entered search text before processing it. Implement a function that determines whether a string is a palindrome after converting letters to lowercase and ignoring every non-alphanumeric character.

A palindrome reads the same forward and backward under these rules. Return True when it is a palindrome and False otherwise.

Formal Specification

  • Input: One string text containing zero or more ASCII letters, digits, spaces, and punctuation.
  • Output: A Boolean indicating whether the normalized string is a palindrome.
  • The normalized string contains only lowercase letters and digits.

Constraints

  • 0 <= len(text) <= 10^5
  • text contains ASCII letters, digits, spaces, and punctuation
  • Comparison is case-insensitive
  • Non-alphanumeric characters are ignored
  • An empty or punctuation-only string is considered a palindrome
