Palindrome Check With Constraints

EasyPython

Problem

CGI Advantage integrations may receive identifiers and messages containing punctuation, spacing, and inconsistent capitalization. Implement a function that determines whether the meaningful characters form a palindrome.

A string is a palindrome when it reads identically from left to right and right to left after ignoring every non-alphanumeric character and treating uppercase and lowercase letters as equivalent.

Formal Specification

Given a string s, return a boolean:

  • Return True if the normalized string is a palindrome.
  • Return False otherwise.
  • Letters and digits are alphanumeric. Punctuation, whitespace, and symbols must be ignored.
  • The input is a single Python string, and the function must not modify it.

Constraints

  • 1 <= len(s) <= 2 * 10^5
  • s contains printable ASCII characters
  • The input may contain letters, digits, whitespace, punctuation, and symbols
  • A string containing no alphanumeric characters is considered a palindrome
