Problem

Write a function to calculate the moving average of a given dataset.

Implement calculate_moving_average(data, window_size). Return a list containing the average of every contiguous window of window_size elements. Return an empty list when the window is larger than the dataset. The output may contain floating-point values.

Input and Output

  • data: a list of numbers.
  • window_size: a positive integer.
  • Return: a list of numeric averages, ordered from the first window to the last.

Constraints

  • 0 <= len(data) <= 10^5
  • 1 <= window_size
  • data contains integers or floating-point numbers
  • The output contains max(0, len(data) - window_size + 1) values
