Monthly Revenue Split Function

EasyPython

Problem

Write a function that splits a full year's revenue evenly across the 12 months, handling the case where the amount is not evenly divisible.

Asked in the Technical phone screen stage. Given a project zip with template code 48 hours in advance; TDD emphasised.

Contract

Implement split_revenue(total) using integer revenue units. Return a list of exactly 12 integers. Each month receives either total // 12 or one unit more, the monthly values sum to total, and any remainder is assigned to the earliest months.

Constraints

  • 0 <= total <= 10^12
  • total is an integer
  • The output must contain exactly 12 integers
  • The output values must sum to total
  • Each output value differs from another by at most 1

Function Signature

def split_revenue(total):
