Median Review Score Update

MediumPython

Problem

Explain how you would calculate the median response time across all reviews, then adjust each review score based on whether its response time is below the median.

Implement the function below. Each review is a dictionary with response_time and score; increase the score by 1 when its response time is strictly below the median, capped at 5. Return the median and a new list of adjusted review dictionaries.

Input: A non-empty list of review dictionaries. Output: { "median_response_time": number, "reviews": list }.

Constraints

  • 1 <= len(reviews) <= 5000
  • 0 <= review['response_time']
  • 1 <= review['score'] <= 5
  • Every review contains exactly one response_time and one score
  • The input list must not be modified
