MCP Server Integration Avoiding Noise

Your question is MCP Server Integration Avoiding Noise. Take a moment with it on the right.

Talk me through your thinking if you like. When you're confident, submit your answer and I'll grade it like a real screen (7/10 or better passes).

You need to log in / sign up to chat or submit.

Problem

Apple's on-device recommendation team is considering exposing this internal feature-store client as an MCP server so an agent can pull data during debugging sessions. Right now it's a plain Python class called directly from internal notebooks.

class FeatureStoreClient:
    def get(self, feature_group, entity_id):
        return self._fetch(feature_group, entity_id)

    def get_all(self, entity_id):
        groups = self._list_groups()
        result = {}
        for g in groups:
            result[g] = self._fetch(g, entity_id)
        return result

    def fetch(self, feature_group, entity_id, window=None):
        return self._fetch(feature_group, entity_id, window)

    def _fetch(self, feature_group, entity_id, window=None):
        raw = db.query(f"SELECT * FROM {feature_group} WHERE entity_id = {entity_id}")
        return raw

    def _list_groups(self):
        return db.query("SELECT name FROM feature_groups").fetchall()

If this code were to become an MCP server exposing get, get_all and fetch as tools, explain in writing what would make an agent calling it noisy or unreliable, and how you would redesign the interface before exposing it.
