Manage Inventory Systems with OO Design

MediumPython

Problem

Tell me about how you would manage inventory systems or lookups using object-oriented principles rather than pure algorithmic optimization, as you would at Stripe.

Implement manage_inventory(operations), using an internal Inventory class to encapsulate stock state and expose clear methods for adding, removing, and looking up SKU quantities. Each operation is a dictionary with action, sku, and optionally quantity. Return one result per operation: True for successful additions or removals, and the integer quantity for lookups. Removing more stock than available is invalid.

Constraints

  • 0 <= operations.length <= 100
  • Each operation action is one of: add, remove, lookup
  • Each SKU is a non-empty string
  • Add and remove quantities are positive integers
  • A remove operation never exceeds the current quantity for its SKU
