How would you write a function to interpolate a list of numbers?

Implement interpolate(numbers, count), which returns exactly count evenly positioned values across the original list using piecewise linear interpolation. Preserve the first and last values, support both upsampling and downsampling, and return numeric values in order.

Contract

numbers is a list of at least two integers or floats. count is an integer at least 2. Return a list of count floats.

Constraints

2 <= len(numbers) <= 1000
2 <= count <= 1000
Each number is an integer or floating-point value
The input list is ordered by position, but values do not need to be monotonic
