Input Validation Function | Dataford Interview Questions

Flow uses workspace slugs in URLs and invitation links. Write a function that determines whether a candidate workspace slug follows Flow's naming rules.

A slug is valid only if it satisfies every requirement below:

Its length is between 3 and 20 characters, inclusive.
It contains only lowercase English letters, digits, and hyphens (-).
It starts and ends with a lowercase letter or digit.
Hyphens cannot appear consecutively.

Return True when the slug is valid and False otherwise. Do not modify the input, such as by trimming whitespace or converting uppercase letters.

Formal Specification

Implement validate_flow_slug(slug), where slug is a string. Return a boolean. An empty string is invalid.

Constraints

0 <= len(slug) <= 20
slug is a Python string
Valid characters are lowercase English letters, digits, and hyphens
A valid slug must have length between 3 and 20 inclusive
