Inheritance and Instance Tracking

Inheritance and Instance Tracking

MediumPython

Problem

Write a class structure that demonstrates inheritance and a method to track instance counts.

Implement a base Member class with Student and Instructor subclasses. The function receives a list of member types, creates the corresponding objects, and returns total and per-subclass counts. Each function call must start with fresh counts.

Input: A list containing "student" or "instructor".

Output: A dictionary with total, Student, and Instructor counts.

Example: build_instance_counts(["student", "instructor", "student"]) returns {"total": 3, "Student": 2, "Instructor": 1}.

Constraints

  • 0 <= len(member_types) <= 1000
  • Each value is either "student" or "instructor"
  • Counts must be reset between function calls
  • The returned dictionary must contain exactly total, Student, and Instructor keys
