Infrastructure Coding Practice

MediumPython

Problem

Tell me about your experience solving coding problems related to infrastructure and SRE work.

For the hands-on coding portion, implement a function that identifies services with sustained failures. Given chronologically ordered health-check events, return the service names that have at least threshold consecutive DOWN checks, resetting a service's count whenever an UP check appears.

Function signature: def find_sustained_outages(events, threshold):. Each event is [timestamp, service_name, status]; return a sorted list of service names.

Constraints

  • 1 <= len(events) <= 500
  • 1 <= threshold <= len(events)
  • Each event has the form [timestamp, service_name, status]
  • Events are ordered by nondecreasing timestamp
  • service_name is a non-empty string
  • status is either "UP" or "DOWN"
  • Each event belongs to one service

Function Signature

def find_sustained_outages(events, threshold):
