How would you improve a recommendation system?
Asked in the Round 6 managerial stage. Asked alongside a SQL question and two product questions in the managerial round.
Describe how you would first diagnose the current system, identify the highest-impact bottleneck, and propose an improvement. Address data and label quality, candidate generation, ranking, personalization, cold start, offline and online evaluation, serving constraints, and monitoring. Explain the tradeoffs behind your choices and how you would distinguish model improvements from changes caused by product, traffic, or data pipelines.
