Find Two Weights Matching Target

EasyPython

Problem

Given an array of weights and a target weight find if the array contains two values that are equal to the target weight.

For this task, interpret this as finding two distinct array elements whose sum equals target. Return True if such a pair exists, otherwise return False. Asked in the technical phone stage. Reported follow-ups include alternative solutions and test cases.

Contract

Implement contains_target_pair(weights, target), where weights is a list of integers and target is an integer.

Constraints

  • 2 <= len(weights) <= 10^4
  • -10^9 <= weights[i] <= 10^9
  • -10^9 <= target <= 10^9
  • Only the boolean existence of a pair is required
