Find the smallest element in an array.

Implement find_smallest(nums) to return the minimum integer in the non-empty array nums. The input is a list of integers, and the output is a single integer. Aim for one linear scan without sorting the array.

Constraints

1 <= nums.length <= 10^4
-10^9 <= nums[i] <= 10^9
The array contains at least one element
