Find Highest Average Load Window

MediumPython

Problem

Given a list of server metrics, find the time window with the highest average load.

Implement a function that takes a list of load measurements and a window size, and returns the starting index of the contiguous window with the maximum average load. If multiple windows have the same average, return the earliest one.

Function Signature

def max_average_load_window(loads, window_size):

Input

  • loads: a list of integers or floats representing server load measurements in time order
  • window_size: an integer representing the length of the time window

Output

  • Return the starting index of the window with the highest average load

Constraints

  • 1 <= window_size <= len(loads)
  • 1 <= len(loads) <= 10^5
  • -10^9 <= loads[i] <= 10^9
  • If multiple windows have the same average, return the earliest starting index
