Filter Upcoming Appointments

Problem

Write a function that takes a list of patient appointments and returns only those that are upcoming.

Each appointment is a dictionary containing a patient identifier and an is_upcoming Boolean. Return the matching appointment dictionaries in their original order without modifying the input list.

The function should return an empty list when no appointments are upcoming.

Constraints

0 <= len(appointments) <= 10^5
Each appointment is a dictionary containing a string patient_id and a Boolean is_upcoming
Return appointments in their original order
Do not modify the input list or its appointment dictionaries
