DOM Child in Parent

MediumPython

Problem

Given two DOM node references, identify if the child is present in the parent

Asked in the DSA for UI stage. Represent each DOM node as a dictionary with a unique id and a children list. The child reference is supplied as its unique ID.

Input and Output

Implement contains_node(parent, child_id). Return true if the node with child_id is the parent itself or a descendant of parent; otherwise return false.

Constraints

  • 1 <= number of nodes in the parent subtree <= 10^4
  • Each node has a unique string ID
  • Each node's children value is a list
  • The input structure is a tree with no cycles
