DevOps and Coding Technical Fit

MediumPython

Problem

Tell me about your experience with DevOps and coding in support of customer outcomes.

As a hands-on coding exercise, process chronological deployment events and summarize recovery outcomes for each customer. Implement summarize_outcomes(events), where each event is a dictionary with customer and status, and status is either "success" or "failure".

Return a dictionary mapping each customer to {"max_failure_streak": int, "recovered": bool}. A customer recovered if a success occurred after at least one failure.

Example: [{'customer': 'A', 'status': 'failure'}, {'customer': 'A', 'status': 'success'}] returns {'A': {'max_failure_streak': 1, 'recovered': True}}.

Constraints

  • 1 <= len(events) <= 1000
  • Each event contains exactly one customer identifier and one status
  • Customer identifiers are non-empty strings
  • Each status is either "success" or "failure"
  • Events are ordered chronologically
