Delivering a Project Not Up to Spec

Your question is Delivering a Project Not Up to Spec. Take a moment with it on the right.

Talk me through your thinking if you like. When you're confident, submit your answer and I'll grade it like a real screen (7/10 or better passes).

You need to log in / sign up to chat or submit.

Problem

Tell me about a time where you delivered a project that was not up to spec, how did you handle? This was asked in the phone_screen stage. Explain how you recognized the gap, communicated it to the relevant stakeholders, prioritized corrective action, and took ownership of the outcome. The interviewer is assessing whether you acknowledge shortcomings directly rather than assigning blame. A strong response should use one specific example, clarify the original expectation, describe your actions after discovering the miss, and close with measurable results and a lesson learned.
