Deduplication Without Built-ins

MediumPython

Problem

Remove duplicates from a list without using predefined/built-in functions.

Asked in the Round 1 stage. Coding; followed by code explanation.

Implement remove_duplicates(items). The input is a Python list of integers, and the output must be a new list containing each value once, in its original order. Do not use set, dict, membership helpers, sorting, len, append, or other predefined functions or collection methods.

Constraints

  • 0 <= len(items) <= 10^4
  • Each item is an integer
  • The output preserves first-occurrence order
  • Do not use set, dict, membership helpers, sorting, len, append, or other predefined collection functions

Function Signature
