How would you implement a function to deduplicate entries in a list using Python?

Implement the function so it preserves the original order and keeps only the first occurrence of each entry. The input contains hashable Python values, and the function should return a new list.

Function contract: deduplicate_entries(entries) accepts a list and returns a list with duplicates removed.

Constraints

0 <= len(entries) <= 1000
Each entry is hashable and supports equality comparison
The input list must not be modified
Preserve the order of first occurrences
