Decision With Incomplete Information

Your question is Decision With Incomplete Information. Take a moment with it on the right.

Talk me through your thinking if you like. When you're confident, submit your answer and I'll grade it like a real screen (7/10 or better passes).

You need to log in / sign up to chat or submit.

Problem

Tell me about a time where you had to make a decision without receiving all the necessary information. How did you approach it?

The interviewer is probing how you balance speed, risk, judgment, and accountability when certainty is impossible. Explain how you identified the most important unknowns, gathered the highest-value information available, made assumptions explicit, and decided whether to proceed, pause, or escalate. A strong answer should use a specific past example, distinguish reversible from irreversible choices, explain how you mitigated downside risk, and close with the outcome and what you learned.
