Debug Vocabulary Suggestion Service

HardPython

Problem

Debug and optimize a service at Duolingo that processes user input and returns matching vocabulary suggestions. Implement prefix matching over vocabulary entries, rank matches by descending frequency, and break ties lexicographically. The function receives vocabulary, a list of objects with word and frequency, a query string, and a result limit, and returns up to that many original words.

Constraints

  • 1 <= len(vocabulary) <= 5000
  • 1 <= len(word) <= 100
  • 0 <= frequency <= 10^9
  • 1 <= limit <= 20
  • Words are unique when compared case-insensitively
  • The returned words preserve their original spelling
  • A query may be empty and then matches the entire vocabulary
