DAU by Video Categories

MediumSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

YouTube wants to identify daily active users who explored a broad range of content. Write a SQL query to find users who watched videos from at least three distinct categories during the previous calendar day.

Output

  1. One row per qualifying user, with columns user_id, username, and category_count.
  2. Include only users with activity in at least three distinct known video categories during the previous calendar day. Exclude events with missing users, videos, or categories.
  3. Treat the previous calendar day as September 14, 2026, so the result is reproducible. Sort by user_id ascending.
