CRUD Data Structure for Strings

HardPython

Problem

Create a data structure to hold strings of a certain format and support CRUD operations (create, get, update, delete).

Asked in the phone screen stage. The expected optimal solution was a trie.

I/O Contract

Implement process_operations(operations). Each string contains lowercase letters separated by periods, such as "food.delivery". Operations are arrays: ["create", key], ["get", key], ["update", old_key, new_key], or ["delete", key]. Return a Boolean result for every operation. Creation and updates fail if their key already exists; updates also fail if the old key is absent.

Constraints

  • 1 <= operations.length <= 500
  • Each key contains 1 to 100 lowercase letters and periods
  • Each key has at least one non-period character
  • Create fails when the key already exists
  • Update fails when the old key is absent or the new key already exists
