Counting Duplicates in Strings

Problem

Write a program to count duplicate characters and duplicate elements in a given string.

Treat each character as an element. Return a dictionary containing only characters that occur at least twice, with their occurrence counts. Character comparison is case-sensitive, and spaces and punctuation must be treated as valid characters.

Function: def count_duplicates(s):. Input is one string, and output is a dictionary mapping duplicate characters to integer counts.

Constraints

  • 0 <= len(s) <= 10^5
  • s may contain letters, digits, spaces, and punctuation
  • Character comparison is case-sensitive
  • Return every character whose frequency is greater than 1
