Count Weekdays Between Dates | Dataford Interview Questions

Count the number of Fridays (or weekdays) between two dates.

Asked in the Coding round stage.

Write a function that takes two dates and a mode, then returns how many dates in the inclusive range match the requested day type. mode is either "friday" or "weekday", where "weekday" means Monday through Friday.

Function Input

start_date: a date string in YYYY-MM-DD format
end_date: a date string in YYYY-MM-DD format
mode: a string, either "friday" or "weekday"

Function Output

Return an integer count.

Constraints

Dates are valid Gregorian calendar dates in YYYY-MM-DD format
start_date <= end_date
The range can span up to around 10^6 days
mode is either "friday" or "weekday"
