Count Character Occurrences | Dataford Interview Questions

Write a function to count the occurrences of each character in a string.

Implement count_characters(s), returning a dictionary that maps each distinct character to its frequency. Treat uppercase and lowercase characters as distinct, and count spaces and punctuation exactly as they appear. The input is a string, and an empty string must return an empty dictionary.

Constraints

0 <= len(s) <= 1000
The input may contain letters, digits, whitespace, punctuation, and Unicode characters
Character matching is case-sensitive
