Clock Hands Angle at 3:15

Clock Hands Angle at 3:15

EasyPython

Problem

ESPN ScoreCenter may display a clock-based game timer or broadcast graphic. Given a valid 12-hour clock time, calculate the smaller angle between the hour and minute hands in degrees.

The hour hand moves continuously as minutes pass. For example, at 3:15 it is not exactly on 3, so account for its additional movement from 3 toward 4.

Formal Specification

Implement clock_angle(hour, minute), where hour is an integer from 1 through 12 and minute is an integer from 0 through 59. Return a numeric value representing the smaller angle between the hands, in the inclusive range [0, 180]. Return a float when the result is fractional. Answers within 1e-9 of the correct value are accepted.

Constraints

  • 1 <= hour <= 12
  • 0 <= minute <= 59
  • The clock uses a standard 12-hour face
  • Return the smaller angle in the range [0, 180]
