Clock Hand Distance

EasyPython

Problem

Providence India’s scheduling tools display times in both digital and analog formats. Given a valid 12-hour clock time, compute the smaller angle between the hour and minute hands in degrees.

The hour hand moves continuously as minutes pass. For example, at 3:30, it is halfway between 3 and 4 rather than exactly on 3.

Formal Specification

Implement clock_angle(hour, minute), where hour is an integer from 1 through 12 and minute is an integer from 0 through 59. Return the smaller angle between the two hands as a number of degrees. The result may be an integer or a floating-point value, and must be in the inclusive range [0, 180].

Constraints

  • 1 <= hour <= 12
  • 0 <= minute <= 59
  • The input represents a valid 12-hour clock time
  • The result must be in the inclusive range [0, 180]
