Check Palindrome Program

EasyPython

Problem

GM Canada's vehicle software validation pipeline processes diagnostic tokens that may need palindrome checks. Given a single word, determine whether it reads the same from left to right and right to left.

Treat uppercase and lowercase letters as equivalent. The input contains only English letters, so punctuation and whitespace do not need special handling.

Formal Specification

Implement is_palindrome(word), where:

  • word is a non-empty string containing English alphabetic characters.
  • Return True if word is a palindrome, ignoring letter case.
  • Return False otherwise.

Use a two-pointer approach that compares matching characters from both ends and moves toward the center.

Constraints

  • 1 <= len(word) <= 10^5
  • word contains only uppercase and lowercase English letters
  • Case differences must not affect the result
  • Use linear time and constant auxiliary space

Function Signature
