CAP Theorem for Database Design

MediumSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

Can you explain the CAP theorem and its implications for database design?

Use the supplied system and observation records to summarize behavior during network partitions. Classify each system based on whether it rejected requests, returned potentially stale responses, or showed both behaviors.

Output

  1. One row per system, including systems without observations.
  2. Return system_name, partition_events, unavailable_events, stale_reads, and observed_behavior.
  3. Classify behavior as CP-oriented, AP-oriented, Mixed behavior, or No observed partition tradeoff.
  4. Order by system_id ascending.
