Bounding Box Collision Detection

EasyPython

Problem

Write a function to detect collisions between two bounding boxes.

Use the signature def detect_collision(box1, box2):. Each box is an array [x, y, width, height], where (x, y) is its top-left corner. Return True only when the boxes overlap with positive area. Boxes that only touch at an edge or corner are not colliding. Assume widths and heights are positive integers.

Constraints

  • Each input box has exactly four integers in the form [x, y, width, height].
  • -10^9 <= x, y <= 10^9
  • 1 <= width, height <= 10^9
  • Boxes are axis-aligned.
  • Touching only at an edge or corner does not count as a collision.

Function Signature

def detect_collision(box1, box2):
