Balance Brackets in Equations | Dataford Interview Questions

Check if an equation is balanced in terms of brackets.

Implement is_balanced(expression) to return True when every (), [], and {} bracket is correctly matched and nested, otherwise return False. Ignore non-bracket characters such as variables, operators, digits, and spaces. An empty string or an equation without brackets is balanced.

Input: A string expression.

Output: A boolean indicating whether its brackets are balanced.

Constraints

0 <= len(expression) <= 10^5
expression contains printable characters
Only (), [], and {} are treated as brackets
Non-bracket characters must be ignored
