Problem

North Cloud Spend provides daily cloud-spend records. Given a list of spend records and an inclusive period of integer day identifiers, calculate the average cloud spend per calendar day in that period.

Each record contains a day and a non-negative amount. Multiple records may have the same day, and days without records count as zero spend. Return the result as a floating-point number. Do not round the result.

Formal Specification

Implement average_cloud_spend(records, start_day, end_day).

  • records is a list of dictionaries, each with integer day and numeric amount fields.
  • start_day and end_day are integers defining an inclusive period.
  • Return the total amount from records whose days are within the period, divided by end_day - start_day + 1.

Constraints

  • 0 <= len(records) <= 10^5
  • start_day <= end_day
  • -10^9 <= start_day, end_day <= 10^9
  • 0 <= records[i]["amount"] <= 10^9
  • Record days and period endpoints are integers
