Average Citation Count by Time

MediumSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

Elsevier analytics teams need to assess citation activity for papers published within a defined time frame. Write a PostgreSQL query that calculates each paper's citation count and the overall average citation count per paper using a window function.

Requirements

  1. Include only papers published from 2023-01-01 through 2024-12-31.
  2. Include papers with zero citations.
  3. Return one row per paper with its citation count and the same overall average across all papers in the time frame.
  4. Sort results by publication date, then paper ID.
