Automate a Workflow

HardPython

Problem

Can you demonstrate how to automate a specific application workflow?

Implement a function that orders workflow steps while respecting prerequisite dependencies. Return the lexicographically smallest valid order, or an empty list if the dependencies form a cycle.

Input consists of unique step names and dependency pairs [ prerequisite, step ]. The function must return a list of step names.

Constraints

  • 0 <= steps.length <= 1000
  • Each step name is unique and non-empty
  • Each dependency contains exactly two valid step names
  • A dependency [prerequisite, step] means prerequisite must occur before step
  • Duplicate dependency pairs are not present
  • Return the lexicographically smallest valid order
