Array Transform Like Pluck

EasyPython

Problem

Disney+ Hotstar assembles content cards from arrays of metadata objects. Implement a pluck function that extracts the value at a specified property path from every record, preserving input order and leaving the original records unchanged.

The path may contain multiple property names separated by dots, such as "title" or "metadata.language". If any part of the path is missing, or an intermediate value is not an object, return None for that record.

Formal Specification

  • Input: records, a list of dictionaries, and path, a non-empty dot-separated string.
  • Output: A list containing one extracted value per input record. Values may be strings, numbers, booleans, dictionaries, lists, or None.
  • Property names are case-sensitive.
  • Do not mutate records or any nested dictionary.

Constraints

  • 0 <= len(records) <= 10^5
  • Each record contains at most 50 properties
  • 1 <= len(path) <= 100
  • Path segments are non-empty and contain no dots
  • The maximum path depth is 20
