3 Ants and Triangle Problem

EasyPython

Problem

Three ants start simultaneously at the three vertices of a triangle. Each ant walks at the same speed along the triangle perimeter, choosing either clockwise or counterclockwise direction independently. If two ants move toward each other on the same edge, they collide. Ants moving in the same direction never collide.

For the Pine Labs triangle test fixture, implement a function that returns the probability of at least one collision when each ant may have a different probability of choosing clockwise movement.

A collision occurs in every direction assignment except when all three ants move clockwise or all three move counterclockwise. Return the result as a floating-point number.

Formal Specification

Given clockwise_probabilities, a list of three floating-point probabilities, return the probability of collision. The ants' choices are independent.

Constraints

  • The input contains exactly three probabilities
  • Each probability is between 0.0 and 1.0 inclusive
  • Direction choices are independent
  • Return a floating-point probability between 0.0 and 1.0
