24-Hour Moving Average Idle Time SQL

MediumSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

Write a SQL query using window functions to calculate the moving average of robot idle times over a rolling 24-hour period at Amazon Robotics.

Use completed idle events only. Ignore rows with a NULL idle_start or idle_end.

Output

  1. One row per completed idle event, with event_id, robot_id, idle_start, idle_seconds, and moving_avg_idle_seconds.
  2. The moving average includes the current event and completed events for the same robot whose start time is within the preceding 24 hours, including the 24-hour boundary.
  3. Order by robot_id, idle_start, and event_id ascending.
