I only made it through a single interview round. The expectation was that there wouldn’t be more stages, and if I was accepted I’d be invited back again at a later point. After the interview, they told me they’d come back to me in about a week, but I didn’t receive an offer after that first round.

I went through three stages, and the timeline stretched out over a few weeks. First was an HR phone call that covered my background, my work experience, and why I wanted Zurich. Then I moved to a face-to-face meeting with both HR and the hiring manager, where we went through my job profile and experience in relation to the role, along with some personal questions. Near the end, salary expectations came up, and the decision turned on that gap—at the time, I ended up being told they’d be moving on.

The next twist was that I got a follow-up call shortly after where they said they were sorry for being blunt and asked me back to discuss compensation in a way that could align with what I needed. That second HR round went methodically through my CV and then got very specific about why I wanted the salary and even touched on what my partner does for work. The interview ended with “we’ll be in touch,” and when I didn’t hear back for a week I followed up on my own—then I got a text message confirming I was unsuccessful.
