What is the interview process like for a Zillow Network Engineer role, including recruiter screen and technical assessments?

Zillow starts with a recruiter screen to align on your background and the role’s expectations. After that, candidates go through technical assessments with the hiring manager or senior engineering staff, focusing on hands-on experience and architectural decision-making. There are two named stages in the process: Recruiter Screen, then Technical Assessments.

How hard are Zillow Network Engineer interviews, and what is the reported difficulty?

Based on candidate-reported experience for this role, the most common difficulty is average. Only one interview experience is reported for Zillow Network Engineer, and no offer rate is available from the same dataset. Plan your preparation as a balanced test of fundamentals plus practical architecture, not an extremely niche-only interview.

What networking topics do Zillow Network Engineer interviews test, and how should I prioritize them?

Expect emphasis on BGP and ARP concepts, along with network address resolution, Layer 2 vs Layer 3 networking, and routing protocol concepts. The prep also highlights Clos network architecture, data center network topologies, and scalability in network design. Prioritize strong fundamentals on ARP and routing concepts first, then move into data center topology and redundancy-oriented design.

What are example questions Zillow uses for Network Engineer interviews?

Public sample questions include: “Load-Balancing Strategy Tradeoffs” and “Explain ARP Concepts.” These align with the role’s focus on traffic management and core networking protocol understanding. Use them to practice clear explanations and trade-off reasoning.

How much does Zillow pay a Network Engineer, and what does pay look like from reports?

Candidate and job-posting reports show base pay down to $127,100 and total compensation up to $203,000. Pay varies by level and location, so your specific offer could fall outside these reported bounds. Use $127,100 base and up to $203,000 total as the anchored range reported for this role.

Average Positive Seattle, WA

My Zoom-based interview process moved through a small group of people. I joined the calls and went through a conversation that included three or four teammates from the group; a portion of them gave questions or tests, while the others mainly talked through the role and what the work looked like day to day. Everyone I spoke with came across as friendly and easygoing.

After that team conversation, I had a hiring-manager-style technical interview as part of the progression. That stage felt more like a deeper look at my background and fit, and I was able to carry the discussion forward by connecting my experience to the role.
