Easy Negative India

My experience went in a direction I wasn’t expecting. Early on, I felt the interviewers were relying heavily on a rigid, memorized script instead of exploring architecture and trade-offs in a real way. The session felt rushed toward completion of a skeleton task, and it didn’t leave much room for production-minded considerations like comprehensive error handling.

When concepts came up that should have been foundational—especially around state-machine thinking—the interviewers seemed unfamiliar. What really threw me was that the requirements shifted at the last minute because they couldn’t clearly define the problem scope up front. That made it hard to know what “right” even meant as the session progressed.

Average Neutral London, England

After a recruiter chat, my process moved into technical rounds with about an hour per stage. I ended up getting far enough that I could feel the momentum build—pair programming first, with a panel that was mostly friendly and even guided me when I felt stuck. In the pairing itself, I tried to stay collaborative and communicate my thinking clearly, and one interviewer at the end told me it had gone better than most senior IC candidates. Even so, it wasn’t enough to move me forward.

The system design round was where things started to feel unstable for me. I had the sense it would be straightforward at first, but the two interviewers pulled in different directions. One pushed me to move ahead to other parts before I felt ready, and the two of them ended up contradicting each other on what an acceptable solution should look like—one wanting a needlessly complex approach and the other focusing on meeting the core requirements. The product interview then leaned hard into soft skills: they asked about my previous job, but they didn’t seem to grasp what I’d actually worked on, and they also asked how I’d measure success for their team.
